ARTIST STATEMENT
The drawings are informed by my environment, both rural and urban. The simplicity of pen/pencil on paper allows me to exaggerate and distort my surroundings and turn them inward as dream-like metaphors of what’s going on inside my head. Often, this is an unconscious endeavor.
My choice of medium is born out of necessity. While in the process of building a studio I require a simple and portable way to work. As the drawings accumulated, a body of work emerged that’s akin to a graphic novel featuring anonymous figures or myself as the protagonist. They don’t tell a linear story but transform moments of life into surreal journals exploring themes of neighbors, ignorance, fear, spirituality, isolation, creativity and the passage of time.
